Attendance Policy -
All students are to bring a written cause of absence upon returning to school. Poor attendance will affect promotion. Excusable absences are as follows:
- illness
- family emergency
- death in family
- religious holiday
Students are responsible for finding out what work was assigned & completing any work they may have missed while absent. This should be done in a timely manner upon returning to school.
Dress Code -
Students should come to school prepared to learn. Clothes should be clean and neat. Clothing should be modest, with no undergarment straps or waistbands showing. Loose pants on boys must be held up with a belt. Ladies shirts should fit appropriately and not be revealing. Shorts, skorts and skirts should be a modest length, no more that two inches above the knee. T-shirts, pins or other clothing with inappropriate or offensive messages or pictures are not allowed. Jewelery and makeup should be kept to a minimum. No pajama pants, slippers or hats should be worn in the building. Any violations to this policy will result in parental contact.
Cell Phone & Electronics Policy -
Students are allowed to carry their cell phones to and from school if they have a parental note on file. During the day, the homeroom teacher will collect the phones and lock them up until the end of the day. We discourage the bringing of music players, video games and other devices. However, if you bring it to school, we can lock it up for the day as well. All electronic devices are the student's responsibility. It is their job to make sure they are turned off and turned in to their teacher as well as picked up at end of day. Any electronics being used while in school, will be confiscated for a parent to pick up.
Food in classrooms-
Students are not permitted to eat in classrooms unless they have special permission (ex. parties). This includes any candy, chips, beverages, etc. GUM CHEWING IS NOT ALLOWED IN SCHOOL! Students may carry a water bottle (no vitamin or flavored water)with them throughout the day, however they cannot have it out while using computers.
Parent / Teacher Communication:
Please feel free to contact us if you ever have any questions or concerns. We ask that you contact us first, to set up an appointment, rather than drop in. Our days can be pretty busy, and we would like to give you our undivided time and attention. You may contact your child’s teacher in several ways.
1. By Email - See contact page for email links.
2. By phone - Please call the school at 773-534-5090. The teacher most likely will be in class, so please leave a message with the phone number and time you can be reached.
3. By Letter - Just send a note along with your child with a phone number and time we can reach you.
Independent Reading -
All middle school students are expected to read a total of 25 books for the school year. The books may be fiction or non-fiction and should be at the middle school reading level.
